With growing level of environmental awareness, it’s good to know that people are finding ways to preserve nature and reduce waste. Last month, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) unveiled a one-of-a-kind nature park, dubbed Prakriti Metro Park, which features creative art installations made from waste materials, including iron scrap, discarded sheets, broken pipes, and tiles.

Located in east Delhi’s Shastri Park Metro Station on the Red Line, this Eco park displays artworks made from junk generated at the Metro’s construction sites. Various artists from across the country were brought together to create spectacular art pieces that even carry messages highlighting different issues in our society.

Each art piece has been designed and constructed to form a connection with nature. The park also has several paintings that depict the importance of conserving the environment. Moreover, there are several varieties of medicinal and pollution-absorbing plants that are irrigated using treated water. The water for horticulture is provided by solar-powered sewerage water treatment plant that required 20kW power.

Covering over 10 acres of area, the nature park even includes a number of facilities such as an auditorium, meditation alcove, amphitheatre, a playground for children, as well as, a gymnasium. Besides all that, you can also see a lake with a fountain surrounded by a rain forest, and the ‘Trellis Court’ with eight pillars in the center that increase in height progressively. There is also a parking lot to accommodate up to 72 cars.

This commendable eco-conscious initiative by the DMRC is being considered as a major step towards ‘Clean Delhi, Green Delhi, the campaign started by the Delhi government.
