We were always taught not to play with our food, but after looking at the incredible food art by Malaysian food artist Hazel Zakariya you won’t mind experimenting with it a little. The imaginative food artist pops colours and creates striking portraits on her smoothie bowls. All of these smoothie bowls portray unconventional visuals that are likely to grab the attention of the viewers.
Her unusual choice of canvas shows that if you’re creative enough, art can be made anywhere. She often uses natural ingredients like turmeric, activated charcoal, and blue matcha to form detailed portraits of animals as well as different characters from pop culture, including the Night King from Game of Thrones.
You’ll be surprised to know that Zakariya is able to achieve such amount of detail using just wooden skewers and a table knife. She ensures that every bowl features subtle colour changes and shading to add a three-dimensional touch to each painting. It’s really hard to believe that all these paintings are made only with food stuff. However, to add some extra pops of colour, she garnishes each dish with tiny flowers and leaves.
Enjoy her creative food art in the images below. You can also catch up her amazing smoothie bowls resembling paintings on Instagram.
