This Indian photographer adds artist expression to street photography Photography

Swarup Chatterjee, Mumbai-based award-winning Indian photographer, has lately changed the way we look at street photography with an artistic touch. His street photos beautifully reflect artistic expression, making each image unique and attention-grabbing at the same time.

Due to his innovative painterly vision in each photograph, people have already started noticing his work. He has even won a few prestigious photographic awards for his images, portraying artistic appeal that makes these photos look like paintings. Some of this creative photographs are clicked by using his slow-shutter image-making technique.

All thanks to this technique, he is able to get the closest to his painting-like photos with his camera movements. Using careful camera movements during the exposure similar to the thumb or finger smudging, he is able to get such effects that make these images look like as if they are being painted on a canvas or illustrated on a paper with charcoal.

He even uses zoom blast technique in various ways to give the viewer a sense of sound being emitted from the subject. Some of his current projects are a commission to recreate classic Bollywood movie posters, and something close to his heart is the Anandoned Women Series that raises awareness by documenting elderly people left abandoned to the streets. This is indeed a beautiful and creative way to send an impactful message to the viewers.

Besides his imaginative work, he even conducts regular photography workshops in Mumbai, as well as leading photo tours in select regions of India. You can find out more about his work on his official website.
