Some artists are able to create such realistic sculptures that it’s hard to believe they are made by human hands. Japanese artist Noriyuki Saitoh is one immensely talented sculptor, who masters the art of capturing features of tiny insects. He contrives incredibly realistic insects using bamboo. After looking at these Bamboo Insects, you’ll be surprised at the level of realism that each sculpture displays.
From the wiry whiskers of grasshoppers to veined wings of dragonflies, these tiny artworks grab the viewer’s attention to the every bit of detailing. Bamboo lends a surprisingly wide range of colours and textures to each creation. Moreover, the natural versatility of bamboo allows the artist and his team to bend, score and layer the material to capture every little detail almost to perfection.
At first glance, you may believe them to be real insects that are ready to crawl or fly. But on a closer look, you’ll figure out that these are actually wooden sculptures. On his website, the artist has explained: “We are not preparing specimens and replicas, we strictly measure the dimensions and prioritize the appearance, features, and senses rather than proportions being exact.”
