One can imagine the level of precision that has gone into the creation of these meticulous wooden vessels by New Zealand-based artist Gordon Pembridge. Born in Kenya and now living in New Zealand, Pembridge has been lucky to develop a lifelong connection with nature. His strong bond with nature can be seen in his artwork as well. All the attractive portrays designed by him are inspired by his two homes – Kenya and New Zealand.
The latest example of this is the series of intricate hand-carved and painted wooden vessels, portraying the surrounding wildlife and other natural elements. Each artwork is the result of a sculpting technique called woodturning process. In this technique, one requires a lathe to shape up the timber in the desired form.
Pembridge beautifully hand-carves wood to form natural motifs featuring foliage, wild animals and other elements that are part of the Mother Nature. Once the wood-carving is complete, he further paints these wooden sculptures using bright colours. These works of art look so realistic as if coming straight out of a real-world wildlife.
Besides painting and woodturning, Pembridge also has the interest in photography, illustration, graphic design, and engraving. Find out more about him and his art pieces on his official website or Facebook page.
