Giving an edge to her art, Russian embroidery artist Krista Decor creates such beautiful designs that seem to be floating in mid-air. She hand-stitches her embroidery designs on tulle, a fine net-like fabric with shimmering, translucent quality. This lightweight netting is so fine that it almost makes the embroidery appear to be suspended in the air.
She learned to make “real haute couture embroidery” using tulle during an internship at V. Yudashkin, a fashion-house in Russia. Most of her artworks are inspired by nature, and feature floral and animalistic ornamental patterns.
On her website, she writes, “When creating the decor, I use flat and voluminous embroidery which requires such materials as woolen yarn and cotton thread, beads, pearls, natural stones, gimp, embroidery with straw and silk ribbon. When combining these materials, a new design is born.”
Krista mostly uses colorful cotton and wool embroidery threads of varying thicknesses and textures to add variety to her art pieces. Furthermore, she embellishes her designs using silk ribbon, beads, pearls, and natural stones – giving a shimmery touch to her beautiful and delicate artworks.
